America: A place where it is only legal to bribe politicians with other people’s money.
As if our Founding Fathers’ weren’t spinning in their graves fast enough!
If an American citizen walked into a Senate office and told their Senator, “I have $100,000. I will give it to you if you vote a certain way on a bill”, what would happen? In all likelihood, this Citizen would be escorted out of the halls of Congress in hand cuffs!
Yet when Senate leaders include monies to buy-off votes on legislation, it is perfectly legal!
Cases in point: to get a “Yes” vote from Mary Landrieu, over $300 MILLION goes to the State of Louisiana. It took $100MM to get Ben Nelson’s “Aye”. Tucked away elsewhere is over $1MMM (that’s three M’s) to ensure Senators vote in line.
Forget about the fact that cash from the General Fund, paid for through taxes on ALL Americans, directed to a few states, would have our Founding Fathers in tears. But if the merits of a bill cannot make it stand up on its own, one should ask why do we force it through with “legal” bribes?
Because they can and it’s now or never? Is it that the Democratic leadership knows that once done, much of these plans cannot be undone? When will we wake up?
