Command and Control
Are we heading to a "Command and Control" economy? My knee jerk reaction is "NO! That's completely unAmerican!". But look at it this way:
Industries under more or less direct Gov't control:
1. Agriculture (Subsidies)
2. Housing (Freddie, Fannie, the Fed, Homeowner bailouts)
3. Banking (Troubled Asset Relief Program)
4. Auto (GM and Chyrlser take-overs)
Industries targeted by Gov't for control:
1. Healthcare (Healthcare Overhaul)
2. Energy (Cap and Trade)
3. Manufacturing (Cap and Trade)
4. Auto (even more control through EPA and Cap and Trade)
5. Food Services (regulating what can be sold--ie trans fats)
6. Airlines (Cap and Trade)
What am I missing? What parts of the economy are left?!?
